Today in Human Geo we started watching a video the war in Sudan and a huge group of boys. Its sad to see what the boys have been through. They started of with 26,000 then in the end it got down to 12,000. Many died from hunger and animal attacks. Looking at those boys was so sad because they are very skinny and it makes me feel bad that i get meals and food everyday and they were starving.

2nd Essay
If Elbert Hubbard and Socrates could time travel to the
present day I think they’d have mixed feelings about our world. They would be
amazed by the technology. People are constantly finding new things about technology
every day. They both had this common belief of thinking out side of the box and
being the best you can be. One thing they wouldn’t like is the way some people
work. Elbert Hubbard was mad about how lazy people were and it’s still true
today. It’s almost half and half. There are some people who give their full potential
and work hard on everything they do. Then there are people who don’t even see
how much potential they have. Overall, they would be impressed on much our
world has accomplished.
1st Essay
Arete is a virtue that basically
means excellence and being a strong person. I think that it means you give your full potential.
Socrates demonstrated arete. Socrates was excellent and the best he could be
when it went to his method of teaching and thinking. The Socratic Method changed
the way a lot of ancient Greeks thought. It encouraged people to think differently, to ask questions
and come to a conclusion. Socrates was arete
when he was accused of disrupting the children’s learning in ancient Greece. He drank the poison that killed him with strength. Arete is something we should all try to be.
3rd Essay
The next four years at John Carroll are very important to me.
My five point plan is something that I should always look to as my goal. I want
to become the best student I can be with these five crucial things to remember.
First off, I’m going to always do my homework and projects on time. I want to
show my teachers that I respect them and take time to put what they teach me to
practice. Second, I’m going to listen and think critically during class. If I don’t
pay attention then why am I even there in the first place! Third, I’m going to
be involved all I can which includes sports and clubs. Fourth, I want to always
keep my grades up. I can’t slack off the whole quarter and the last few days
try to get my grades up again. Finally, I’m going to think positively. Sometimes having so much homework and a lot of
other things to do I can get lost and give up. I’m going to remember that it’s
all worth it in the end when I get to graduate proud of myself and what I’ve
accomplished over the last four years.

Friday's Class
Friday, in class, we reviewed a lot. We went over the terms we had to define Wednesday night for homework. Those terms were interesting because Mr.Schick made it tie into A Message to Garcia really well. We had a discussion on that too! We talked a lot about Socrates! We learned that he wasn't the most attractive man but he was very smart. He had his beliefs and when he had the chance to apologize for trying to change Athens, he didn't. He told the people that Athens was a horse and he was the horse fly. He was buzzing around biting the horse until it started moving instead of the horse just sitting there lazily. That was a really cool thing he said. The death of Socrates was very interesting too. He died by drinking a awful poison that made him paralyzed and die. It was a good class.

A message to Garcia
Today in Human Geo Mr.Schick read us A Message to Garcia by Elbert Hubbard and asked us to write notes in our copybooks about it. He started reading and I wasn't really fully paying attention but then it got interesting. It talked about President McKinley wanting to send a message to General Garcia who no one knew where he lived. President McKinley asked a messenger named Rowen to go and deliver the letter. Rowen didn't ask questions and went on a journey to deliver the letter even though he had no directions on where Rowen was. The whole message here is that you just have to do your best in whatever your told and give it your all without asking questions.

Day 1
Today was my first real class of human Geo. Mr.Schick gave the class new seats where I sit in the back near the air conditioner :) We went over a lot of things. We read through the class syllabus. He explained lateness, homework, and his grading system. I like the idea of writing a blog every night after class too! I think that its a neat way to use technology, English (spell check and writing), and also discussing the days topic and what we learned. I like the whole going green thing too. Using less paper really does help the environment! I think I'm really going to like Human Geo !

First Day of High School
My first day experience at John Carroll went very well. I started out nervous the night before not getting very much sleep. I didn't know what to expect, even though I've heard so many stories from my older brother and have been to the campus many times. I first went to the cafeteria where I saw my friends from St.Margaret's having the same nervous faces that I had. Then everyone went to the auditorium for an introduction. Next it was advisory! Mr. Gaudreau is my advisor! He is really cool! Being in the art wing for advisory is nice because it has air conditioning and its not like a normal classroom feel. Mr. Gaudreau showed me my locker where getting it open was a struggle! It took me five tries! From that point on the whole day happened so fast! It was honestly a lot of fun! Starting school in a new place with so many new people is great! I got my picture taken for the yearbook and student I.D. , ate lunch and then began my mini schedule of classes. My favorite class was math because well who doesn't love math!? Orientation was a very good experience and on Monday I will already know my way around the school like a pro. I'm excited to spend my next four years as a patriot!
