Today is class we watched more of  the God Grew Tired of Us video. Its very sad but some of the boys got sent to the U.S.A. It was neat and funny how when the man was explaining things to them they were so amazed at simple things like electricity and the toilet. It makes me appreciate what i have.

Today in Human Geo we started watching a video the war in Sudan and a huge group of boys. Its sad to see what the boys have been through. They started of with 26,000 then in the end it got down to 12,000. Many died from hunger and animal attacks. Looking at those boys was so sad because they are very skinny and it makes me feel bad that i get meals and food everyday and they were starving.

Today in Human Geo we reviewed the questions we had for homework. We had discussions about all the questions!  Mr.Schick told us that the terrorist who hijacked the planes on 9-11 trained in the United States. I found that so weird and my face was in aw.

Today in class we talked about good  note taking. We  took notes and learned about Illinois! Illinois is nicknamed the prairie state because outside of Chicago its all planes and very flat.  We also learned that Mr.Schick is originally from Illinois. Human Geo is fun with all the stories. Today's class seemed longer because it was in the morning. Also Mr.Schick told us there are many forms of note taking that can help us through out high school.

2nd Essay

If Elbert Hubbard and Socrates could time travel to the present day I think they’d have mixed feelings about our world. They would be amazed by the technology. People are constantly finding new things about technology every day. They both had this common belief of thinking out side of the box and being the best you can be. One thing they wouldn’t like is the way some people work. Elbert Hubbard was mad about how lazy people were and it’s still true today. It’s almost half and half. There are some people who give their full potential and work hard on everything they do. Then there are people who don’t even see how much potential they have. Overall, they would be impressed on much our world has accomplished.

1st Essay

Arete is a virtue that basically means excellence and being a strong person. I think that it means you give your full potential. Socrates demonstrated arete. Socrates was excellent and the best he could be when it went to his method of teaching and thinking. The Socratic Method changed the way a lot of ancient Greeks thought. It encouraged people to think differently, to ask questions and come to a conclusion.  Socrates was arete when he was accused of disrupting the children’s learning in ancient Greece. He drank the poison that killed him with strength. Arete is something we should all try to be.

3rd Essay

The next four years at John Carroll are very important to me. My five point plan is something that I should always look to as my goal. I want to become the best student I can be with these five crucial things to remember. First off, I’m going to always do my homework and projects on time. I want to show my teachers that I respect them and take time to put what they teach me to practice. Second, I’m going to listen and think critically during class. If I don’t pay attention then why am I even there in the first place! Third, I’m going to be involved all I can which includes sports and clubs. Fourth, I want to always keep my grades up. I can’t slack off the whole quarter and the last few days try to get my grades up again. Finally, I’m going to think positively.  Sometimes having so much homework and a lot of other things to do I can get lost and give up. I’m going to remember that it’s all worth it in the end when I get to graduate proud of myself and what I’ve accomplished over the last four years.

Friday's Class

Friday, in class, we reviewed a lot. We went over the terms we had to define Wednesday night for homework. Those terms were interesting because Mr.Schick made it tie into A Message to Garcia really well. We had a discussion on that too!  We talked a lot about Socrates! We learned that he wasn't the most attractive man but he was very smart. He had his beliefs and when he had the chance to apologize for trying to change Athens, he didn't. He told the people that Athens was a horse and he was the horse fly. He was buzzing around biting the horse until it started moving instead of the horse just sitting there lazily. That was a really cool thing he said. The death of Socrates was very interesting too. He died by drinking a awful poison that made him paralyzed and die. It was a good class.
